A significant number of scientific studies have shown the importance of colostrum to young mammals. Current research shows that colostrum sets in motion at least fifty different functions in newborn animals. As well, mammals that receive too little colostrum have greater death rates than those that receive adequate amounts. Research has also shown the role of white blood cells, present in colostrum, in contributing to the health of young mammals. These white blood cells help to reduce the effects of bacterial disease, and are only found in fresh colostrum.
