Parturition represents exposure to common diseases the young animal has not yet been exposed to. Because the crias' birth may take place in a location that is difficult to maintain cleanliness or a controlled temperature, proper management and adequate colostrum feeding becomes very important for your crias chances for survival.

Monitor mother to anticipate birthing time period.
Birthing location should be clean, warm, and close to where you might observe it.
Make sure adequate amounts of colostrum are fed to young crias in the first 24 hours after birth.
Monitor weight gain in crias over first couple weeks.
